The month of Ramadan is the month of goodness, generosity and giving, and in sports and media, we learned a lot in it. We were associated with the first generation of Arab commentators, who worked here in the country, and we were associated with a number of beautiful names that our generation still remembers, and they are among the old football commentators in the country, and they had Special flavors, thanks to their quick-wittedness in their commentary on events in a way that attracts attention, especially from the people of Egypt, and their voices began to appear during the Ramadan sessions, specifically in the early seventies, despite the fact that the level of commentary currently in Egypt is not comparable to “the old generation,” and in the past. The audience was waiting to hear what the match commentators said, unlike now, it has become undesirable, because of what is heard on the screens.
In the old days, commentators were chosen from retired football players, including Mimi El-Sherbiny, Mohamed Latif, and others. Their speech represented credibility for the fans, and when they talked about any technical matters, they were approved because of their credibility before the fans. El-Sherbiny worked as a coach at Al-Nasr Club during his period. Gold medal, and a coach for the national and military teams, and Muhammad Latif came to us by invitation and commented on the military team’s matches against Iraq in the early seventies in the Military World Cup qualifiers, and he has stories and anecdotes with Emirati football.
Commentators in the past were like law professors, and they were stars, and they had a lot of knowledge of football, or other games, and whoever worked on the radio must be stars of football or other sports, so they were like professors who studied history and aspects of the game, in order to give the correct information. For the viewer, and here we remember a number of Egyptian commentators who pushed us to love football commentary, and they are the three Abdel Moneim Radwan, Farouk Rashed, and Murad Refaat, and Radwan remains the most attractive in his sweet expressions. They were not only commentators, but they were teachers in the morning, secretaries in the evening, and during… Students commentate on football on the radio, which was famous for transmitting sporting events in their voices. The commentator “Zaman” had his own flavour, as their voices still ring in the minds… I swear to God, it was the intention!
