Counselor Mortada Mansour, president of the Egyptian club Zamalek, directed a barrage of criticism against English Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg, “47 years old,” who took office last August 2022.
Clattenburg was forced to resign from his position as head of the Egyptian Arbitration Committee, due to these criticisms, along with safety concerns.
Among the criticisms directed by the president of the Zamalek club, the 14-time Egyptian league champion, to Clattenburg, was his separation from his wife to start a homosexual life, touching on his personal life, and he also witnessed several threats from the Zamalek fans, while he did not receive a two-month salary of 32 thousand pounds sterling, all of which The reasons prompted him to resign, despite his great efforts to persuade foreign officials to travel to Egypt to supervise the big matches.
Clattenburg surprised the Egyptian Football Association with that resignation, which prompted the federation to hold an emergency meeting to decide on it and decide to accept it today, Wednesday, praising security and safety in Egypt, and that those concerns about his safety carry a kind of exaggeration.
Since his resignation from his position as referee in the English Premier League in 2017, Clattenburg moved to Saudi Arabia to take over the position of chief arbitrator in the Kingdom, and from there he moved to China and Greece before assuming his position in Egypt, according to sources.
