The French car company DS unveiled its all-new DS 3, before it was officially shown at the Paris International Motor Show.
The DS 3 CROSSBACK model has become a benchmark in its class in terms of design, technology and revolutionary features that have earned it exclusive qualities and all-new features. We notice the new, more efficient and dynamic front, and an aerodynamic front cover that hides an electric motor coupled with a revolutionary technology battery.
The design language of the rest of the DS range is reflected in the front grille, which has been upgraded with gloss black or diamond chrome stripes depending on the model. While the distinctive DS wings have been modified, to play a harmonious symphony with the grille and LED headlights with a dynamic design, which give the new DS 3 a more glamorous appearance with three distinctive units emphasized in satin chrome. It also features DS MATRIX LED VISION, with intelligent control and automatic main beam, to provide maximum comfort and safety, which has been put forward as a stylish option for customers.
The new daytime running lights also feature vertically arranged LED stripes on either side of the front for a distinctive, wide signature, in keeping with the latest DS design language.
improve the performance
The developers of the new DS 3 excelled in adding many technical aspects that changed the method of dealing with these categories. The new model maintains the understated character of its predecessors, balancing bold design and technical expertise with the DS 3’s signature shark fin, flush door handles and invisible exterior window locks.
The rear is also enhanced by lights and accentuated on the tailgate by the signature brushed black stripe “DS AUTOMOBILES” with brushed stainless steel lettering that is individually segmented and placed in the trim.
The all-new Southern design comes to increase efficiency in maneuvers and when launching at high speeds, and it comes in two different sizes, 17 and 18 inches. 17-inch wheels for the all-electric E-TENSE model, while the new DS 3 is available with new 18-inch TOULOUSE wheels shod with “Tall & Narrow Class A+” tyres.
The new DS 3 is offered in seven body colours, flat, metallic and pearlescent, including two new pearlescent colours: Diva Red, a three-layer color exclusive to the new DS 3, and Gloss Gray. Crystal Pearl, Platinum Gray, Artense Gray, Perla Nera Black and Polar White complete the offer, with the option to create two-tone combinations with two different roof versions: Perla Nera Black or the new Carat Gray.
The luxury inside
The cabin is covered in rich leathers, particularly the Nappa leather upholstery with Art Leather specification, Alcantara®, and details such as pearl stitching or Clous de Paris embossed inserts, which are unique to the interiors of DS cars. These sumptuous details represent the DNA of DS cars so beloved by discerning people.
The new steering wheel features repackaged driver-assist controls and infotainment buttons, as well as gearshift paddles for the automatic gearboxes. Connected to a new 10.3-inch high-resolution central display as standard, with the new DS IRIS SYSTEM infotainment system integrated.
The seats in the new DS 3 feature design and technology that serve both beauty and luxury. It is covered in innovative high-density foam to provide class-leading seating comfort. The front seats can be heated and have a massage function (lower back), and they can also be automatically adjusted (forward and backward, up and down, reclining, lumbar settings).
And at the top of the range, OPÉRA offers an interior in basalt black nappa leather with watchband seats to indulge in creative luxury, with character and modernity.
The Rivoli trim level offers new seats in Basalt Black grained leather with Basalt Black Gradient effect inserts. Pebble Gray upholstery with combined Nappa leather/fabric is also available.
The seats, instrument panel strips and door panels are trimmed with Alcantara®. The PERFORMANCE Line + has additional equipment such as the center armrest, floor mats and aluminum pedals.
Revolutionary engines
The model includes a range of multi-power drivetrains topped by the fully electric multi-level E-TENSE, the lowest in CO2 emissions, together with the petrol engine, (assembled in Trémery-Metz), as well as other equipment (produced in Valenciennes) and a new battery (bundled in Poissy) to increase efficiency and range.
The new HSM synchronous electric motor takes advantage of the experience gained in Formula E to prove its high efficiency. It delivers 115 kW (155 hp) of power and 260 Nm of torque at 400V.
While the new battery has a capacity of 54 kWh (51 kWh usable) temperature control through liquid circulation, and a heat pump that allows for fast charging, better range and increased life span. It comes as standard on all models, which can be charged in direct current (10-80% in 30 minutes) and 11 kW in alternating current (0-100% in 5 hours and 45 minutes).
