The Ferrari Roma Spider, the latest model from the Maranello marque, was presented to customers today at an exclusive event at the El Badi Palace in Marrakesh. This elegant, high-performance vehicle is a contemporary interpretation of the elegant, fun-seeking Italian lifestyle of the 1950s and 1960s. This Spider carries the proportions, sizes and specifications of Ferrari Roma’s highly successful V8 2+ concept, but what makes it so amazing is its soft-roof reliance, 54 years after the 1969 365 GTS4 debuted.
A fresh, contemporary look to the soft top design underscores the Ferrari Roma Spider’s spacious character, with extensive customization options including advanced bespoke fabrics and contrast stitching.
On a functional level, the soft top deploys in just 13.5 seconds and can be operated at speeds up to 60 km/h. The new patented wind deflector integrated into the rear seat backrest can also be deployed via a button on the central tunnel, ensuring exceptional comfort for passengers inside car without taking up any space in the car.
The Ferrari Roma Spider retains the excellent dynamic characteristics of the Ferrari Roma, with its best-in-class weight/power ratio thanks to its soft top, all-aluminum body and 620hp from its high-performance mid-range V8 family of engines, which rank as the best in the world. year on four consecutive occasions.
The engine is mated to Ferrari’s world-acclaimed 8-speed DCT which is known for its incredibly fast shift times, as well as excellent standards of comfort and mechanical efficiency.
The Ferrari Roma Spider is not only easy to drive, but also extremely dynamic and responsive.
This makes it the perfect companion for weekends out on the town and long trips alike. With the exhilarating Ferrari V8 soundtrack playing in the background. A number of features are designed to make this vehicle supremely versatile, including its class-leading trunk size, which includes a hatch across the rear seat backrests to allow the carrying of larger items, and standard wireless connectivity by Android Auto® and Apple CarPlay® Wi-Fi. -Fay.
And don’t forget the 18-way heated comfort seats, which are also available with an optional neck warmer for cooler days.
Designed by the Ferrari Design Center headed by Flavio Manzoni, the Ferrari Roma Spider aims to take the La Nuova Dolce Vita concept beyond the city limits for elegant and carefree ‘outdoor’ driving.
And the Spider 2+ features a soft cloth upper, designed not only to preserve the coupe’s flawless proportions, but to enhance the coupe’s flawless proportions on which it is based without modifying this car’s sleek, streamlined silhouette.
A redesign of the coupe’s curved roofline meant the rear screen was modified to incorporate into the soft top so that it could fold under the rear seat cover when open.
Native to the Ferrari Roma Spider, a body-color stripe running across the base of the roof divides the carbon fiber active spoiler from the roof and rear screen, creating a seamlessly integrated rear apron. When the soft top is lowered, the active spoiler connects visually to the seat back and head restraints.
Unlike the usual basic fabrics that we see in most convertibles, a new material has been used for the soft top of the Ferrari Roma Spider, giving it unparalleled distinction. The special texture was chosen and developed in color combinations that highlight the dual spirit of the car, one more elegant and the other sporty. .
This custom-tailored finish with a two-tone weave over a four-color palette highlights the tapestry’s refined, refined nature. The optional technical textile specially developed for this vehicle gives it a sporty yet highly sophisticated appeal, with an innovative weave creating a very attractive iridescent red finish that enhances the three-dimensional surface of the roof.
Exterior design
The stylistic approach to the Ferrari Roma Spider’s exterior revolves around elegant design and the absolute coexistence of its various elements. Its harmonious proportions and pure, elegant proportions are very much in the tradition of Ferrari’s front-engined GT cars. However, the designers have created a modern take on those classic proportions, giving the car a contemporary and sophisticated elegance.
The long front hood accentuates the spare silhouette of the wings, giving the whole body an elegant feel and a dynamic look.
The car’s discreet and timeless front end appears as if it was carved from a single block of metal, creating the Sharknose effect overhanging.
The bonnet and flared wings flow into one another but also harmonize with traditional Ferrari design cues. The designers sought to keep the car’s forms minimal and elegant by removing any superfluous vents or decorative features. In fact, the model’s configuration does not include the Scuderia Ferrari’s side shields, reflecting the approach taken with road cars of the 1950s.
Engine cooling is ensured by perforated surfaces, only when absolutely necessary, creating a new interpretation of the grille concept that comes in the same color as the bodywork, making it seamless with the design. The grille edges flow into two fully linear LED headlamps that give the front of the car its own distinctive character. It is traversed by a horizontal DRL strip that alludes to the structure under the skin of the car, an element that brings a sense of tension to the entire perimeter of the car.
The fastback’s cabin size is compact and compact, ending in a small, discreet niche underneath. The designers have created a modern take on Ferrari’s signature tail. The Ferrari Roma Spider’s long rear volume, a feature of the Ferraris of the 1950s and 1960s, was retuned, resulting in a lower profile and smaller footprint embracing the rear axle. The car’s wraparound tail is characterized by the purity and modernity of the transverse design. Technological advances have made it possible to reduce the dimensions of the tail lamp assembly, resulting in a simple, ingenious design. The rear is completed by an integrated aerodynamic diffuser that incorporates the railing and tailpipes.
cab
For the Ferrari Roma Spider’s cabin, the designers of the Ferrari Design Center have taken the same approach in volumes and shapes that were introduced in the Ferrari Roma. It creates two separate spaces, one for the driver and passenger, in an evolution of the double cockpit concept, which has deep roots in the marque’s history with cars from the 1970s. The innovative appearance of the dual cockpit is created by extending the philosophy applied to the dashboard to the entire cabin. Hence the vision of two units that wrap around the driver and passenger and extend and integrate with the two rear seats.
The Ferrari Roma Spider’s cabin has an almost symmetrical design that results in a more dynamic distribution of spaces and functional elements. The result is that the passenger will feel deeply involved in the driving experience – almost like a co-driver.
Made by shrinking back volumes and accentuated by piping along its edges, the two cockpits extend in a wrap-around volume and extend from the instrument panel to the rear seats, integrating the instrument panel, doors, rear seat and tunnel. Thus, the cabin is not designed as a set of separate sub-assemblies, but is defined by elements that evolve organically.
The technology adopted derives from Ferrari Roma, where the digital instrument cluster is integrated with the surrounding volumes and protected by an anti-glare box that extends naturally from the instrument panel.
The passenger has an optional screen that allows them to share driving information. An 8.4-inch central display between the two cockpits, partially floating between the instrument panel and tunnel, includes other infotainment and climate control functions.
The F1 gearbox controls are set in a modern metal plate that recalls the iconic gearshift gate. In the Ferrari Roma Spider, this is in the center of the tunnel and is angled to make it easier for the driver to reach and see.
The HMI at the steering wheel is an improved version of the one seen in the Ferrari Roma with touch controls on its spokes. The left spoke has indentations compatible with the touch controls to ensure the driver can get a feel for which one they’re using.
The trackpad on the right speaker has also been improved — there’s now an indentation that makes it easier to scroll. These solutions help the driver know where the controls are, in line with Ferrari’s recently adopted ‘eyes on the road, hands on the wheel’ philosophy.
The “Engine Start” button is also now illuminated in red on the rear, to underscore the excitement of the moment when Ferrari’s iconic twin-turbo engine comes to life.
The Ferrari Roma Spider is powered by an engine belonging to the V8 turbo family that has been named “World Engine of the Year” for four consecutive years, and was also voted “Best Engine of the Last 20 Years” in 2018. The 3855 cc power unit can generate 620 horsepower. at 7,500 rpm, that’s 161 bhp/l, which combine with the agility of the low-end pickup, thanks to which 80 percent of the torque is available at just 1,900 rpm.
The Ferrari Roma Spider also sees the introduction of an important development of the oil pump that reduces compression time in the cold by 70%, as well as an increase in flow rate in the mid revs. The same modification was also introduced to the Ferrari Roma, demonstrating the company’s commitment to continuous research and development.
