Today, Thai Dinwit Boribonsop won the Saudi Open Golf Championship presented by the Public Investment Fund after finishing the match with a score of 18 under par at the Riyadh Golf Club.
Benoit started the final day in second place, one behind the leader on the penultimate day, his compatriot Phachara Khongwatmai, but an eight-birdie in a stunning final round saw him finish 18 under par, ahead of Sweden’s Henrik Stenson in the Waterface Smith.
This is the first win for the 19-year-old Thai player on the Asian Tour, but it is the second time he has won in Saudi Arabia in just three weeks. He scored a victory in the Aramco Championship on the Asian Development Tour in Dammam two weeks ago, before also winning the Thailand Open Championship on the All-Thailand Tour last week, which confirms that he finished the year with a unique trio of victories. Boribunsub was happy with the biggest win in his professional career, especially with the two leaders of the Leaf. Golf: Swedish Henrik Stenson and American Kevin Na.
On this occasion, Boribonsop said: “I never thought that I would win this tournament because there are many big players and big names here like Henrik Stenson and Kevin Na. He said: “I was really confident before I came this week. I was able to shoot well, so my goal this week was to win and fortunately, I succeeded.”
Boribonsop began his final round with three doubles in three holes, but the young Thai star confirms that luck accompanied him until the end.
He said: Luck played a role with me, especially on the twelfth hole, because I hit it left, but it bounced straight so that the ball would not go out of bounds.
The tournament was launched with the participation of 120 golfers in an ideal atmosphere attended by game lovers who enjoyed the accompanying activities in addition to following the tournament.
