The General Sports Authority has done well in preparing the majority of its sports facilities, including stadiums and halls, ahead of the start of the 2025/2026 sports season and the Asian Youth Games. These facilities have been renovated, and some have been completed. Therefore, the media exploratory visit was accompanied by various directors from the Authority.
According to Dr. Askar, CEO of the Sports Authority, the development of the infrastructure of sports facilities is being carried out according to a ten-year plan, with each phase lasting two years. This focus is on facilities that will host local leagues and, more importantly, those that will host Asian events.
There is no doubt that the football league, in its two divisions, requires such preparation, both in large and secondary stadiums. This is what has been worked on, especially near the league, including Al-Ahly Stadium, which has undergone qualitative improvements as it will host a significant portion of the league matches, necessitating the renovation of its various facilities. The important thing for the concerned federation is to strike a balance in holding matches on the available stadiums, avoiding overstretching the surfaces, especially the natural grass, so that they remain usable throughout the season. There is no doubt that this also requires cooperation from the clubs, particularly in terms of changing rooms and their facilities, while also enforcing penalties for violators. Perhaps what the Head of Facilities, Ahmed Al-Ali, referred to is the development process taking place at the National Stadium, which will appear in a new form, also comfortable for media professionals, with the refurbished seating areas, in addition to the new track and an external training track. We hope that these developments will be reflected in our football season.
In any case, the assessment comes not only from the clubs and their players, but also from the media and fans. Therefore, the secondary stadiums hosting the Second Division League need more maintenance for the spectator seats, as we have pointed out more than once, as well as the creation of dedicated spaces for media professionals.
