In a historic event, Egypt won the right to host the 2027 World Darts Championship, following a vote held during the 29th General Assembly of the International Darts Federation (WDF), which took place in the South Korean capital of Seoul, on the sidelines of the 2025 World Championship.
The vote was attended by delegations from 80 member countries of the WDF, and Egypt won with a resounding majority, after competing against the United States and Hungary.
The Egyptian bid showcased the country’s unique technical and logistical capabilities, highlighting Sharm El-Sheikh as one of the world’s leading tourist and sports destinations.
Dr. Yahya Abdel-Qader, President of the Egyptian, Arab, and African Darts Federations, explained that the Egyptian bid was distinguished by the security and stability that the country enjoys, noting that Sharm El-Sheikh is one of the most prominent international tourist destinations, combining natural beauty, complete safety, and a pleasant climate year-round.
He added that cooperation with specialized tourism companies will provide distinguished tourism programs for participants and their families, including an opportunity to visit the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
Abdel-Qader expressed his sincere gratitude to the political leadership, represented by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who played a major role in creating the necessary security and political environment for this major event.
Abdel-Qader stated that Egypt’s hosting of the 2027 World Darts Championship will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the tournament, which will give the championship a special character and enhance its international participation. The Egyptian Darts Federation is expected to begin preparations immediately upon its return from South Korea, in accordance with the timeline approved by the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports. The hosting agreements will be signed, and the event details will be announced at an international press conference attended by all relevant stakeholders.
This tournament, to be held at the Sharm El Sheikh International Conference Center, represents a fantastic opportunity for Egypt to host a major international sporting event, coinciding with national celebrations, thus further enhancing its reputation as a leading tourism and sports destination.
