The Union explained in a statement that Hossam Al-Shaer’s nomination for the award comes after the remarkable and tangible achievements he has made in the field of tourism development, sustainable community development, and excellence in leadership and development.
The poet’s winning of the award came after a final qualification and competition with Salim Al-Zaghal from sisterly Tunisia, one of the most important investors in Tunisia, Belgium and France in the specialized hotel sector, in what is called thalathotherapy, meaning treatment with sea water.
Hossam Al-Shaer won the award with 89% of the total votes from Afro-Asian tourism figures.
Dr. Hossam Darwish, President of the African-Asian Union AFASU, stressed in his speech that the Tourism Development Leader Award comes in honor of every leadership figure who has contributed significantly to tourism development, whether locally or globally.
Darwish explained that the Development Leader is awarded to those who have a significant impact on the development of their country and a positive, sustainable impact on the tourism sector.
The President of the Afro-Asian Federation drew attention to the personality of Mr. Hossam Al-Shaer and how he contributed positively and influentially to the development of Egyptian tourism, which led to an increase in tourists’ interest in Egypt, praising the contributions of the giant Sunrise Tourism Group, which is distinguished by its renewed thinking in specialized tourism management.
Major General Hossam Badr El-Din, Secretary-General of the Federation, added: “Today we celebrate a leading figure in the tourism development sector in the world after a marathon of competition with several figures from friendly countries, and in the end everyone becomes winners because the goal is sustainable development in the tourism sector, which remains a goal for all of us.” The decisions of COP 27 in Sharm El Sheikh and COP 28 in Dubai also came.
For his part, Hossam Al-Shaer expressed in his speech to the audience his great happiness with the honor, especially since it comes from an international African-Asian Federation that emerged from a long-established international organization founded by the heads of African and Asian countries, which is the African-Asian Peoples’ Solidarity Organization, which was founded in 1958.
The poet said: “I really feel very happy, without a doubt, for several reasons. I do not apply for awards, and I do not like to put myself through tests. My selection for this award was completely without my knowledge and because of the great enthusiasm of the international jury, and there is another reason.”
He continued: “It is a respectable award that does not compliment anyone at all. The biggest reason for happiness is that it came after the best leader in the world chose a tourist city and governorate, His Excellency Major General Dr. Khaled Fouda. This is a great honor.”
He added: “This wonderful award appreciates the efforts of all the distinguished men and women in the country and urges them to work continuously to advance our beloved country, Egypt, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.”
He noted: “Allow me to extend a special thank you to His Excellency Major General Dr. Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, for his support and dedication to serving the Governorate of South Sinai first, then the tourism sector and tourists.
