The first round of the 26th Gulf Cup tournament ended in Kuwait, and the eight teams appeared in their true colors, complementing what the seven teams, except Yemen, have presented in the World Cup qualifiers. The matches of the first group ended in a positive draw, and the matches of the second group ended in a difficult victory for Iraq with a single goal over the Yemeni team, which is still an orphan among its peers in the Gulf tournament for reasons known to those concerned, and an amazing victory for the Bahraini Red over the Saudi Green 3/2. This victory increased the question marks about the state of the Green, which is living the most difficult period of its life, if I may say so, due to the offensive sterility that accompanies it in the World Cup qualifiers, and the defensive imbalances that made it easy for the Bahraini team to come out with a great victory that it did not expect and with little effort. The Green was well-spread in the middle of the field, very weak in offensive pressure, and easy to penetrate in the defensive areas. In my opinion, the next match will be the deciding factor, either to continue competing, or for its old-new coach “Herve Renard” to devote himself to fixing the defect before the wheel of the qualifiers returns The World Cup is about to be held and work is being done to strengthen what remains of hope, for the situation is not easy for either friend or foe!!! As for the other teams, through the first round, it can be said that the title is within reach of six out of eight: Iraq, Qatar, the Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, then Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, hoping for something, and the eighth is the Yemeni national team. No sane person can ask the team for more than it is offering, given the situation it is living in, and Yemen has been living in for more than ten years, and it knows the reality, and therefore it sees that winning one of the upcoming matches will be a turning point in its participation in the tournament, in which it began its presence from Kuwait two decades ago.
