Chance brought me together with a former international goalkeeper and current goalkeeper coach, at a funeral for the late uncle of the former international goalkeeper Ali Saeed, and it was natural for the talk to be about goalkeepers in Bahrain, and the necessity of preserving this important position by limiting its work in local competitions to the local player.
The talk included the necessity of holding more training courses to graduate specialized trainers; whether retired goalkeepers or other players who have retired and want to specialize in training goalkeepers; although we tend to have training in this regard limited to veteran goalkeepers because they can apply it in front of their players during training.
This friend confirms that goalkeeping is very important and the goalkeeper is half the strength of the team, and any team must have more than one goalkeeper at the same level to avoid any emergency circumstances during the match, and this requires discovery and training, especially since the goalkeeper has precise physical and technical specifications, which can only be revealed by a specialist.
In my opinion, whenever the goalkeeping coach is a former star, he will be an example to be followed by those who want to play in goalkeeping. It is unreasonable for him not to shine like the goalkeeping coach of the former star Hamoud Sultan; because if he had continued as a coach, it would have been a gain for this position. Everyone wants to emulate him and wants to resemble his stardom. The same applies to the stars Mohsen Abdul Wahab, Ali Saeed and Abdullah Bilal.
But this does not mean that every good goalkeeper can be a good coach, but we say that it is better to benefit from his experience and techniques in application, and to be a role model for his players while displaying training skills and methods of blocking balls, as he has all the characteristics of a regular coach and the characteristics of the position and seeks to search and discover, otherwise his presence or absence.
It is important for the goalkeeping position to receive the attention of the Football Association by qualifying local coaches to specialize and work in clubs, and also limiting the goalkeeping position to local players. I believe that in previous years this allowed clubs to graduate stars in goalkeeping, as there were no complaints in the national teams and clubs about the existence of
deficiencies in this position.
