Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Supreme Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, President of the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club and Al Ain Ladies Club, congratulated the teams participating in the first edition of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Gulf Basketball Cup, which was hosted by the new headquarters of the Academy in Abu Dhabi, which is a translation of the vision of our wise leadership in supporting women and harnessing the ideal sports environment for them with limitless ambitions.
Her Highness expressed her deepest thanks and appreciation to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, “Mother of the Emirates”, for her generous support and generous hands, which we see in all fields to enhance the role of women, which is reflected in holding this tournament in the modern sports hall at the new headquarters of the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, to constitute the beginning of a launch towards holding more events in various sports during the coming period, to be the first destination for Arab women.
Her Highness said: “First, I would like to express my great happiness and pride in the success of the first edition of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Gulf Women’s Basketball Cup. This sporting event was a source of inspiration and a celebration of sports and excellence, and we witnessed great performance and a high level of fair competition.” She added: “We were pleased to welcome all the distinguished guests from the Gulf countries who participated in this distinguished tournament. Your presence reflects the spirit of cooperation and solidarity that unites our peoples, and contributes to strengthening the fraternal ties between us. Your presence had a great impact on the success of this event.” She concluded: “I would also like to extend my appreciation and pride to Gulf women in general, and Emirati women in particular. You demonstrate every day your outstanding ability and determination to achieve success in various fields, including sports. Our support for women and our backing of their capabilities is an essential part of our efforts towards achieving further progress and accomplishments.” This came on the occasion of the crowning of the Kuwaiti Al-Qurain team with the title of the first edition of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Gulf Women’s Basketball Cup, which was held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation “Mother of the Emirates”, and under the directives of Sheikha Fatima Bint Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Supreme Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy, Chairwoman of the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club and Al Ain Women’s Club, after defeating the Qatari Al-Gharafa team with a score of “71/55” in the final match held at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy Hall in Abu Dhabi. In the match to determine third and fourth place, the Omani Salalah team won third place by defeating the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Basketball Academy team with a score of “52/39”. The crowning ceremony was attended by dignitaries, in addition to the member of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy, His Excellency Talal Al Hashemi, along with representatives of the participating delegations. Organizing tournaments such as the Fatima Bint Mubarak Gulf Women’s Basketball Cup is of great importance in promoting and developing women’s sports, as it provides an important platform for discovering and refining new talents, which contributes to raising the level of technical and tactical performance among teams. The tournament also witnessed an unprecedented public and media turnout, which reflects the extent of the community’s interest in women’s sports, and enhances the continuity of organizing future versions of the tournament by the academy, which contributes to the continued development of sports and support for talented players. In this regard, His Excellency Talal Al Hashemi, a member of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy Board of Directors, thanked all parties that contributed to the success of the first edition of the tournament, and praised the efforts of sports institutions in the country and all sponsors from the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police to Emirates Transport, Abu Dhabi Media Network, Al Ain Water and Burjeel Medical City, stressing that this success is not only for the academy but for women’s sports in the UAE and the Gulf in general. He added that the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy has become a national platform for refining talents, expressing the support of the wise leadership for the tournament and its outcomes. For his part, Mr. Abdullah Al Mutawa, head of the delegation of the Kuwaiti Al Qurain Club, expressed his pride in the performance of his team during the tournament, praising the distinguished numbers achieved by the players, and stressed that the strength of the competitions contributes to the development and excellence of the players in preparation for the upcoming season. In turn, Mr. Hamdan Al Zaabi, member of the Board of Directors of the UAE Basketball Federation, praised the great efforts made in organizing tournaments for women’s sports, considering that this version resulted in a group of talented female basketball players, and stressed that the concerted efforts in the field of women’s sports contribute to presenting inspiring models, which is reflected in the remarkable success achieved by the tournament.
