The champions of the Syrian Arab Republic continue to represent their ancient sport in the Emirate of Sharjah in the sisterly United Arab Emirates, with their participation in the seventh edition of the Arab Women’s Club Games 2024, under the slogan “Every champion has a story to tell on the fields,” through 6 sports teams covering six of the eight approved games. These are: basketball, volleyball, karate, table tennis, athletics, and fencing. The championship activities will open on the second of next February at Al Majaz Theater in Sharjah.
The participation of Syrian champions in the largest women’s tournament in the Arab world comes after the honorable achievements through which Syrian girls won the title of the Fourth West Asian Federation Football Championship 2023, which was hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the crowning of the Syrian women’s football team with the title of the Second West Asian Federation Football Championship 2023. Hosted by the Polo Stadium in Al Hussein Youth City in Jordan.
The seventh edition of “Ladies’ Arab” will be launched on the second of next February, under the patronage of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, and with strong Syrian participation from 6 sports teams belonging to 5 Syrian clubs: Al-Thawra, Taldara. Governorate, Nasib, Police, among 63 teams and 560 players from 15 Arab countries.
Athletics is at the forefront
Athletics achieved the largest number of participants at the team level, with 12 sports teams competing in its competitions out of the total participating teams, followed by volleyball with 9 teams, then basketball and karate, which each competed with 8 teams, while table tennis came in third place among the games. There are 7 teams, while 6 teams are competing for the championship gold, in both bow and arrow and fencing games, and finally among the archery games there are 5 teams preparing for their confrontations.
8 sports facilities host competitions
Eight sports facilities distributed throughout the Emirate of Sharjah are preparing to host the seventh session’s competitions and training sessions. The Women’s Sports Foundation hall, the Sharjah Club in the Semnan area, and the Sharjah Club in the Al-Bataeh area will be the scene for basketball matches and training, while the Women’s Sports Foundation hall and the Khor Fakkan Sports Club will host volleyball competitions and training.
As for karate, its matches and training are held at the Children’s Center in Al Qarayen, and table tennis training and competitions are held at the Sharjah Club in the Al Hazana area and the Women’s Sports Foundation Hall, which also hosts fencing competitions and training. Al-Thiqa Club hosts athletics competitions, and its training is held at the Sharjah Club in Al-Hazana, while shooting players hold their matches and training at the Al-Dhaid Club.
In terms of the schedule of competitions and coronations for the games, the “fencing” competitions and coronations were set for February 4, while the “archery” competitions and coronations were set for February 9, while the “athletics” and “bow and arrow” competitions and coronations were set for February 10, provided that they are competitions. The “Karate” and “Table Tennis” competitions and coronations will take place on February 11, and the “Volleyball” and “Basketball” competitions and coronations will take place on February 12.
The Supreme Organizing Committee for the seventh edition of the tournament has set the date for the technical meetings on February 1 for fencing competitions, and on February 2 for basketball, volleyball and archery, while the table tennis and bow and arrow meetings will be held on February 6, followed by February 7 for karate and athletics.
