Arab and continental football fans are anticipating the competitions of the eighteenth edition of the Asian Cup, which begins this evening and concludes after a month in Qatar, with the participation of 24 teams, including 10 Arab teams: the Emirates, Qatar, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman, and we hope that our Arab teams will have the last word. At the end of the journey, despite the difficulty of competing with the giants of the eastern continent, we have great hope for the people of (Dad Language) to add a seventh title in the tournament that began in 1956 in Hong Kong without Arab participation.
Our teams remained absent from the tournament until the fifth edition in Thailand in 1972, when Iraq and Kuwait participated with 4 other teams. In the sixth edition in 1976, the Kuwaiti team succeeded in qualifying for the final match, but lost to its Iranian counterpart (the host) with an unanswered goal, before… It was able to win the title in the next edition at home in 1980 with a great victory over the South Korean team by three, and with its first appearance in the eighth edition in Singapore in 1984, the Saudi team imposed its supremacy and was crowned with the first title under the leadership of national coach Khalil Al-Zayani, and the Iraqi team won the sixth Arab title in 2007. Which was honored by the Emirati leaders of the Iraqi team in recognition of their achievement in winning the Asian Cup title, so it was an unforgettable Iraqi night.
The Iraqi community in the Emirates lived an unforgettable night in Dubai, where a large celebration was held in the Al-Ahly Club hall. Crowds of Iraqi fans and from various cities of the Emirates marched towards the Red Castle for everyone to experience an Iraqi night that cannot be easily repeated, just as is the unprecedented achievement of the Lions of Mesopotamia.
