• I liked yesterday’s statement by the Premier League (English Premier League) commenting on the events in Gaza, strongly condemning the horrific and brutal acts of violence against innocent civilians, sympathizing with the victims and their families, and the decision to wear players, technicians and officials in league matches (21, 22, 23) October; Black armbands and a minute’s silence.
• In my opinion, this is a responsible position from a football organization without regard to political positions, because they believe that “sport only flourishes in the shadow of peace,” as if they were recalling the words of the late Sheikh Isa bin Rashid when he had similar positions when war events broke out in our region, He believes that sports are not healthy if they are on fire.
• I believe that such positions must resonate with sports federations. At least in our Arab region, the same applies to the matches that take place on its lands. It is official or friendly, in order to convey to everyone who loves sports and football in particular, that it needs a healthy atmosphere for the fans to flourish.
• There is no doubt that in the days of FIFA, many friendly matches are held at the national and club level. It would be better if our Arab federations followed the Premier League in its decision, and recommended implementing the idea in solidarity with the people of Gaza and Palestinian sports. And those who love watching matches, including all Arab leagues!
• This is not politicization of sport; But it is the least duty we can do to support our people in Gaza, where thousands of young men and children are being martyred. Before that, they were prevented from playing football in a healthy environment. Indeed, in Gaza before the outbreak of events; She was struggling to organize her patrols and competitions and provide her supplies and accommodation.
• I hope that we show media sympathy with the people of Gaza to stop the machine of killing and destruction, and this position must occupy a wide space in various media outlets for the international community to feel; Also, the possibility of transferring proceeds from matches and other donations made on the sidelines can represent a kind of sympathy to purchase supplies that Gaza’s athletes currently need.
