The curtain fell in Bangkok the day before yesterday on the fiercest elections for the Olympic Council of Asia, which witnessed an unexpected Kuwaiti struggle, described as fair in its presidency between Sheikh Dr. Talal Al-Fahd and Hussein Al-Musallam, and Sheikh Talal Al-Fahd won by 24 votes against 20 for the next four years, and this matter was expected Although Syria’s vote was excluded after the death of the Secretary-General of the Syrian Olympic Committee on the morning of Congress, the Syrian delegation’s request to be allowed to vote was rejected, due to the lack of an official letter.
In this regard, Sheikh Talal Al-Fahd called for accepting the request of the Syrian delegation, directing his speech to the head of the electoral commission and saying, “If the secretary of the Olympic Committee in your country dies, how can he attend? How do you ask a man who has died to sign an official document? I ask you to allow Syria to vote with its present delegation. Asia is for everyone and does not close its door in the face of anyone.. And to my Syrian brothers, in Arabic I say, “May God reward you.” Sheikh Talal Al-Fahd asked to stand for a minute of mourning for the soul of the deceased, may God have mercy on him.
Before his speech after announcing the result, Sheikh Talal Al-Fahd prostrated himself to God in thanks for the victory and said: “I promise you that I will raise one flag, which is the flag of Asia, and I promise you that I will follow in the footsteps of my family, which has always pursued leadership in this place, one Asia and one family..this is my motto which I will work for.”
This historic victory was not easy, as it was a real competition, as the political leadership in the sisterly State of Kuwait congratulated Talal Al-Fahd for this victory, and all circles expressed their happiness with the victory of the Martyr’s Son, which we hope will be a good beginning and a new page for Kuwaiti sports.
With a look at the history of the Council, it was established in the year 1982 under the leadership of Sheikh Talal Al-Fahd’s father, the late Sheikh Fahd Al-Ahmad, may God rest his soul, as the Council continued to lead him until his martyrdom before the elder brother of Sheikh Talal Al-Fahd, Sheikh Ahmed, assumed the position since July 1991 and played a major role in tipping the balance of power. His brother, because the election game is an international game, not a continental one.
The President explained that he has been with the Asian family for 40 years, and he will seek to enhance financial support and investment for the development of sports and athletes, and that his family has a relationship with this council for more than sixty years. He promised that he would work 24 hours a day, without rest for the sake of the council, describing the chair as temporary until he returns. His older brother to lead the Asian continent mathematically!
Decisive and exciting hours culminated in the most suitable and competent president led by “Bomashal”, who received a doctoral thesis on the Kuwaiti constitution.
