Having captured the hearts of the masses, Volkswagen continues the success story of the multi-million-selling Touareg to date, with a comprehensive technical and visual update to the SUV that is even more luxurious than its predecessor.
The front and rear of the luxury SUV have been redesigned, and the body has been developed in a larger and more impressive way, to combine strength, comfort and good taste, ahead of its world premiere this summer.
And the new camouflaged Touareg is still completing its final test miles in Swedish Lapland. Although the design modifications are still hidden under the larger dynamic body, suspension and more responsive engine, it is possible to see the newly developed IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix headlamps, the all-new LED light bar elements integrated between them and the IQ.LIGHT Matrix headlight. They can turn night into day, ensuring significantly more brightness on the road – without obstructing visibility to oncoming traffic. 19,200 micro LEDs are distributed over the new headlamps on each side of the car. The matrix system also projects an interactive carpet of light into the luxury sports car’s driveway. This so-called “lane light” makes driving at night more comfortable, and easier to drive through narrow highways in complete darkness, as the light carpet perfectly illuminates the path.
The VW logo is illuminated
Backlit VW logo. As the first Volkswagen model to carry this feature, the new Touareg sports an illuminated badging at the rear end.
Since January 2023, the company has allowed the Volkswagen badge to light red in Europe. To be preceded by markets such as China and the United States.
Volkswagen has developed the Touareg’s four-wheel drive chassis further. Among the new additions is a roof load sensor, which is networked with the body electronics, increasing the model’s agility when the roof is unloaded. If a roof box is installed, the sensor recognizes this and passes this information on to assistance systems such as ESC, increasing driving stability on the road.
The standard steel spring running gear and optional two-chamber air suspension drive gear have also been given a new setting to achieve a greater bandwidth between maximum comfort and optimum performance.
It also improves the interior of the car. The model has the “Innovision cockpit”. These are operated via the central touchscreen (38.1 cm or 15 inches in diameter), the multifunction steering wheel and analog elements such as the volume control in the center console.
In the new Touareg, the Innovision Cockpit offers accurate navigation and high-resolution map data. Voice control has also been further developed. The application can also be linked via a smartphone and “App Connect” (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) wirelessly.
The saloon also has armrests and center console panels that are softer and more comfortable. Thus, the new Touareg also represents the goal of making Volkswagen models more consistent with customer needs. This update makes the Touareg a well-balanced SUV that is ideal for long travel.
