I like the journalistic initiatives that deal with sports documentation, each in his specialization, and this, in my opinion, has become important and necessary to preserve our legacies so that today’s generation can see them. A new book by the Egyptian author Ibrahim Masiha on the history of the leading Egyptian sports journalism in the Arab world was published on the sidelines of the Cairo Book Fair. What concerns me here is the Egyptian press From it we learned and benefited from those who are considered among the first Arab brothers who came and worked with us in the region. Most of them were teachers, working in the morning as a teacher in the school and in the evening playing another role, whether in clubs as coaches or journalists. I remember very well some of the names that played a role that we do not forget. In 1895, when Muhammad Nashed formed the first football team, and played in the name of Egypt against the English army team and won, the Egyptian newspapers seized the opportunity to stir up the patriotism of the people, by praising the performance of their team, so it was the real beginning of the emergence of sports journalism, and the newspaper «Al-Ahram» The first to write about sports.
The book also deals with what the scholars of the French campaign wrote in the book “Description of Egypt” about sports, especially the Egyptians’ practice of wrestling in the streets of Cairo.
Then the author turns to the pioneer of sports criticism and its founder, Ibrahim Allam, famous for Juhayna, who established the first sports page, as the newspaper began on Saturday, November 4, 1922, to allocate a fixed corner on its fifth page under the title of sports
The appearance of newspapers and magazines continues, as well as “Kawkab al-Sharq”, which presented the first cup for the Egyptian football teams to compete for in 1933. » and «Al-Masaa», and those who established it since the middle of the last century..and among the most prominent names that visited us and worked were Naguib Al-Mestikawy and Abdel-Majid Noman, who accompanied the Egyptian Al-Ahly Club to play with Al-Nasr Club in Dubai in the year 74 in January, and on that day Al-Ahly lost all its stars with a goal for nothing, as he worked with us Here is Nassif Selim in Al-Ittihad newspaper as a correspondent in Cairo, and in the early eighties he was hired as a consultant for the sports department, and Hamdi Nahas, who supervised a daily supplement issued during our hosting of the Asian Football Cup qualifiers in the year 79, and the four moved to the neighborhood of their Lord, may God have mercy on them, but we remember them with goodness..and the four students The adults came and completed the journalistic procession with us for all their ability and creativity.
Today, our press includes many sons of the Arab world, brothers from Egypt, Sudan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and others. We in the Emirates are proud of the brothers who worked with us, as our press believes in the importance of the Arab presence. They contribute with us to the development and prosperity of sports journalism, which we consider the vehicle that leads the press. Being the most widespread among readers, and it is enough that sports journalism in our Arab world still enjoys follow-up and attention, especially in major occasions and derbies that spread from the ocean to the Gulf, the most prominent of which was concluded in Basra before the days of the Gulf tournament, which has a merit in the development of competition between our Gulf newspapers. We are waiting for many upcoming challenges. Sports journalism always scores goals in all locations and fields. Thanks to those who work in this field. They are creative and have a special character and color that distinguishes them from other colleagues!! And God is behind the intent.
