In a move reflecting the institutional seriousness and growing international ambition of the Egyptian Darts Federation, the Federation announced the selection of Major General Khaled Fouda, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Local Development and former Governor of South Sinai, as Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee for the 2027 World Darts Championship bid. This appointment is part of a comprehensive plan aimed at delivering a historic and unprecedented edition of the tournament on Egyptian soil.
This selection stems from his extensive executive and administrative experience, his successful track record in managing international events, most notably the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in 2022, and numerous other major national projects. Furthermore, his ability to build strategic partnerships supports the Egyptian Darts Federation’s vision of establishing Egypt as a regional and global hub for modern and recreational sports. This is in addition to his significant contributions to the Federation during his tenure as Governor of South Sinai, which led to the establishment of the Egypt International Darts Championship in Sharm El Sheikh and placed the city on the global darts map. These efforts ultimately resulted in Egypt winning the bid to host the 2027 World Darts Championship in Sharm El Sheikh. Major General Khaled Fouda stated that the tournament’s organizing committee is committed to ensuring the highest standards of organization, given the anticipated large participation from 80 countries and over 1,600 players and administrators. The events will be held in South Sinai Governorate at the Sharm El Sheikh International Convention Center, a venue that has hosted numerous historic conferences, summits, and cultural events, establishing Sharm El Sheikh as one of the top five cities globally and reinforcing its role as a global platform for dialogue and interaction among peoples.
He added that the organizing committee is expected to include a number of public figures, experts, and specialists in sports organization, investment, tourism, media, and international relations, all working towards a vision of transforming the 2027 World Darts Championship into a global event that combines sports, tourism, culture, and entertainment. Dr. Yahya Abdullah, President of the Egyptian Darts Federation, emphasized that the next phase requires the combined expertise of national stakeholders capable of transforming the dream into a comprehensive international project. He noted that the formation of the Supreme Committee represents a true starting point towards hosting an event befitting Egypt’s name and its sporting, tourism, and organizational standing.
He added, “We are not merely aiming to organize a championship, but rather to present a global model that reflects the strength of the Egyptian state and its ability to host international sporting events to the highest professional standards.”
The Egyptian Darts Federation is continuing its international efforts during this period to enhance Egypt’s chances of hosting the championship, supported by a wide network of local and international partnerships, amidst the rapid growth that darts is witnessing globally.
