The newspaper “Al-Mountakhab” revealed a list of 10 players who will compete for the 17th edition of the “Golden Lion” award, which will be given to the best African football player for the 2024-2025 season.
The ten players were selected based on criteria adopted since the award’s inception in 2004, including team achievements with the national team and club, individual achievements, and adherence to the values of sportsmanship.
The “Golden Lion” award was launched in 2004, with the first edition being won by Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto’o. Last year’s award went to the captain of the Atlas Lions and star of the Moroccan national team, Achraf Hakimi.
The award’s management has set Monday, November 24, 2025, as the date for announcing the final results of the vote, in which approximately 45 journalists from across the African continent and international media outlets covering African football will participate. • List of 10 contenders
